Stripped of its wrappings, the mummy has been laid out in the library of the Monastery of San Lazzaro, an ancient center of learning. In 1825 an Armenian adventurer who became Egypt's Minister of Finance presented this mummy to the monastery. These 3,500-year-old remains of a high-ranking official or priest have become the subject of intensive study. Chemists, biologists, botanists and geologists use the latest techniques to extract information from Egyptian mummies such as this one.
