Selected by an independent international jury for their visual quality, storytelling, and commitment to diverse representation, this enriching collection highlights the power of photojournalism and documentary photography, offering space for reflection in times of urgency.The 42 winners were selected by an
independent jury out of 59,320 entries by 3,778 photographers from 141 countries.
Jury
Judging of the 2025 World Press Photo Contest took place in January and February 2025 and involved regional juries and a global jury. The regional juries first made a selection of entries per category in their regions, after which the global jury decided on the winners. Learn more about the judging process.
“We made our choices with an eye on the final mix. As much as the World Press Photo Contest award is an immense recognition for photographers, often working under difficult circumstances, it is also a recap of the world's major events, however incomplete. The World Press Photo of the Year and two finalists
The World Press Photo of the Year and the two finalists will be announced on 17 April 2025 at 11.00 AM CEST (Netherlands time) online and at the press opening of our Flagship Exhibition 2025 at De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam.
