Both of her parents are dead, and she is being cared for by members of her community. At least 15 million children worldwide have lost one or both parents to AIDS, most of them in sub-Saharan Africa. South Africa has the largest number of individuals living with the HIV virus in a single country. In 2003, the government approved a national strategy to provide anti-retroviral treatment to 1.4 million South Africans within five years.
