Antoni Khadraoui practices poses before going on stage for a bodybuilding competition. Khadraoui has won medals in both weightlifting and bodybuilding in Sweden and internationally. He suffered an accident that paralyzed his lower body while in the Algerian army. Later, having moved to Europe, he took up weightlifting to take his mind off the violence of the war in Algeria. He won a silver medal in the first major contest he entered, and has since taken numerous trophies, competing in categories not only specifically for people with disabilities, but also against able-bodied contestants. He has met some resistance from sports authorities in his insistence on breaking down barriers regarding disability within sport.
