Players ride out on to the plain at the top of the pass for morning practice. Every year a polo tournament high in the Himalayas attracts thousands of spectators. The pass is some 3,900m above sea level, and the opposing teams come from two villages on either side of the pass. Four matches are played over three days, with the crowds of spectators who come for the event transforming the plateau into a busy tent village. It is a great honor to win the tournament, and victorious players are held in high regard.
