Russian swimmers go through their routine at the synchronized swimming school of the Moscow State Institute of Physical Culture. Russia is a leader in international competitions in the field. Initially a male sport, synchronized swimming is now practiced largely by women, and was first admitted to the Olympic Games as a full-medal sport in 1984.
