US Secretary of State Colin Powell receives a pat on the cheek from National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, in a rare off-guard moment in the Oval Office at the White House. They were attending face-to-face talks between President George W. Bush and the Israeli Prime minister Ariel Sharon. The meeting lasted more than an hour, but failed to bridge differences on major Middle East issues, such as the formation of a separate Palestinian state.
