Trainee cosmonaut Yuri Lonchakov gets ready to climb into his space suit at Star City cosmonaut training center, just outside Moscow. The undersuit he is wearing has a complex network of water pipes sewn into it that will help regulate his body temperature when he is in space. One year later, in April and May 2001, Lonchakov was on his first mission into space: STS-100 Endeavour, the 9th mission to the International Space Station.
