Although the army put an end to the uprising by taking the White House on October 4, groups of anti-Yeltsin hard-liners attacking riot police continued to roam the capital for days. Waving red flags, they raced through the streets long after most of the rebels had surrendered. Around the parliament building uncaptured snipers continued their attacks. When the dust settled, the death count stood at almost 150, with about 1,000 people seriously injured.
