Taken after her mastectomy, this self-portrait by US multimedia artist Matuschka (39) is intended as a political statement about cancer, women and physical beauty. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991, Matuschka resolved to use her art to raise public awareness and generate a deeper understanding of the impact of the disease on women's lives.
