The racetrack straddles the Green Line, which divides the once warring sectors of Muslim (West) and Christian (East) Beirut. During the civil war, the track was closed as snipers dueled from windows and rooftops of nearby buildings. Since the end of the war in 1990, the track has been open every Sunday.
