After a suspected Tonton Macoute is burnt to death scenes of voodoo and cannibalism ensue, with the killer cutting pieces off the body, showing them to the crowd and distributing them among bystanders. The violence that had characterized Haiti reached a new peak in January 1991. A leader of former dictator Duvalier's secret police - the sinister Tonton Macoutes tried to seize power - but this time the army sided with the democratic forces. A bloody backlash followed.
