Steve Christo studied photography at the Sydney Technical College and started work at the Sydney Morning Herald in 1987, shooting news, sports and features. He moved solely to sports in 1994, covering the Olympic Games in Sydney, Athens and Beijing, two Commonwealth Games, the World Cup in South Africa and many other events, both in Australia and internationally. Christo's awards include a 1993 IOC Gold Lens for black-and-white singles, three POYi Awards of Excellence, a 2008 Sony International Photography Award's second prize in Sports and in 2007 a World Press Photo third prize for Sports Action stories. He was named 2009 Photographer of the Year by Panpa Awards.
