German photographer Roland Witschel joined Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) in 1961, where he worked as a photojournalist, photo editor, and later as director of photography until 1987. As a photojournalist he was present at many international events including sports, politics, conflicts, disasters and other world events.
