The World Press Photo Foundation and De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam are extending their partnership for another five years

With around 100 exhibitions in 45 countries and around 4 million visitors, World Press Photo's traveling exhibition of award-winning images is one of the most popular photography events in the world. The World Press Photo Exhibition, first organized in 1955, was also on view annually in De Nieuwe Kerk from 1982 to 1999. The World Press Photo Exhibition 2021 is due to open in De Nieuwe Kerk on Saturday 17 April 2021.

Op vrijdag 29 januari 2021 ondertekenden Annabelle Birnie, directeur van De Nieuwe Kerk, en Arnoud van Dommele, algemeen directeur a.i. van de World Press Photo Foundation, een nieuwe samenwerkingsovereenkomst. Deze bekrachtigt dat de flagship World Press Photo tentoonstelling, die al sinds 2014 in De Nieuwe Kerk de winnaars van de World Press Photo Contests toont, voor nog eens vijf jaar aan de Dam te zien zal zijn. De tentoonstelling in Amsterdam toont de bekroonde visuele journalistiek en digitale storytelling en is altijd de start van de jaarlijkse wereldwijde World Press Photo Exhibition tour.

Annabelle Birnie, directeur van De Nieuwe Kerk: ‘Het is zo bijzonder dat De Nieuwe Kerk ieder jaar de start van deze wereldwijde tournee samen met World Press Photo kan organiseren. Met een honderdtal tentoonstellingen in 45 landen en rond de 4 miljoen bezoekers is World Press Photo één van de populairste fotografie-evenementen ter wereld. De World Press Photo-tentoonstelling, voor het eerst georganiseerd in 1955, was van 1982 tot en met 1999 ook al jaarlijks in De Nieuwe Kerk te zien. De World Press Photo Exhibition 2021 zal naar verwachting geopend worden op zaterdag 17 April 2021.
