Philip Montgomery

Philip Montgomery (b. 1988) is a Mexican-American photographer whose work examines American politics, culture, and society. 

He is a regular contributor to The New York Times Magazine, Vanity FairThe New Yorker and ZEIT Magazine.. In 2018, he was awarded the National Magazine Award for his work chronicling the American opioid epidemic. He has also received awards Pictures of the Year International, American Photography, and the National Press Photographers Association. His work has been exhibited at Foam Museum in Amsterdam, International Center of Photography in New York, Saatchi Gallery in London, Aperture Gallery in New York, Les Rencontres d'Arles in France, and the Galerie du Jour - Agnès B in Paris. His work is part of permanent collections at the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection and the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation. A large-scale survey of his work will be on view at the Deichtorhallen Museum in Hamburg, Germany in fall 2025. 

American Mirror,  his latest monograph, published by Aperture, is a decades-long chronicle of the country's historic struggles. 

He lives and works in New York City.
