Almudena Toral is a Spanish visual journalist and filmmaker currently based in Miami, United States.
She heads enterprise video at Univision News Digital. Prior to joining Univision, she taught video storytelling at Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, pursued her own projects worldwide and worked full time at The New York Times and TIME. Her work has also been published by The Guardian, AlJazeera, VICE, The Intercept, Canal+, NPR and other outlets.
Toral's work has been recognized by two News & Documentary Emmy Awards, Pictures of the Year International, PDN Photo Annual, the Hillman Prize, RFK Human Rights Journalism awards, the Webbys, the National Press Photographers Association, Ortega & Gasset and Rey de EspaƱa journalism awards, among many others.
She has degrees from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS), CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and Universidad Complutense de Madrid and is a Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, IWMF and International Reporting Project grantee. She is a member of FotoVisura/GUILD.
