Susan Meiselas is a documentary photographer, and has been member of Magnum Photos since 1976. She is best known for her coverage of the insurrection in Nicaragua, and her documentation of human rights issues in Latin America. She is the author of Carnival Strippers, Nicaragua, and Pandora’s Box, and editor of El Salvador: The Work of 30 Photographers, Chile from Within, Kurdistan: In the Shadow of History, and Encounters with the Dani.
Meiselas has had one-woman exhibitions in Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York and her work is included in collections around the world. Her awards include the Robert Capa Gold Medal, Leica Award for Excellence, Maria Moors Cabot Prize, the Hasselblad Foundation Prize, the Cornell Capa Infinity Award, and most recently, the Harvard Arts Medal. In 1992 she was made a MacArthur Fellow.
