Lissette Lemus is a Salvadoran documentary photojournalist. Her work is largely focused on issues related to violence resulting from the gangs and the migration process her country has gone through for decades. She also covers migration, religion, human rights and natural disasters that hit every year.
She is a grantee of the scholarship “Exprésate” from the International Women Media Foundation (IWMF), an initiative focused on gender violence and LGBT communities in Central America.
She was named journalist of the year by the El Salvador Journalists' Association in 2003, and in 2006 was a finalist in the Ibero-American black-and-white photography contest.
In 2009, she won first prize in the Daily Life category in the World Press Photo Contest. The next year she was selected to participate to the World Press Photo Foundation's Joop Swart Masterclass.
Lissette Lemus studied a Master's Degree in Violence Prevention Public Policy at Universidad Don Bosco in 2015 as a means to understand violence from a wider scope.
In 2019, she was finalist in the Latin American Documentary Photography Competition "El trabajo y los días".
She is currently the Web Photo Editor of elsalvador.com, a website from the newspaper El Diario de Hoy where she has worked since 2002.
