Amit Madheshiya is a graduate in English literature from Hindu College, New Delhi, India. He works as an independent photographer and is based in Mumbai. For his work on the traveling tent cinemas, Madheshiya received an Arts Research Grant from the India Foundation for the Arts, a fellowship from the Cluster of Excellence at Heidelberg University and the Goethe Institute 50 Year Anniversary Grant. In 2009, this work won the Sony World Photography Award for Arts and Entertainment, as well as the Grand Award in the Humanity Photo Awards, and Madheshiya was declared Emerging Photographer of the Year in India, by TOTO Funds the Arts. In 2010, he received a fellowship from the National Foundation of India for his work on the migrant children living in Mumbai, and his work on India's visual culture is supported by fellowships from Tasveer Ghar.
