Patrick Andrade (Colorado, USA, 1975) studied journalism at Colorado State University. After his graduation, he moved to New York in 1998 to work as a newspaper photographer for Newsday. After two years, he began freelancing for the Associated Press and the New York Daily News, and joined Gamma Press in 2000. After covering the events of 11 September 2001, his photographs were published in Paris Match, Le Monde 2, Le Figaro and Time magazine, which launched him into a career of freelance magazine photography. He then traveled to Afghanistan, working regularly for Newsweek, which resulted in receiving a World Press Photo Award in 2002. After covering the war in Iraq for Newsweek, Andrade joined Polaris Images. His first exhibition was held in 2004 at the cultural foundation Solares in Parma, Italy. In 2004 and 2005, he lived and worked in Afghanistan, photographing the elections and reconstruction efforts by USAID. Andrade is now based in New York and works regularly for the New York Times and weekly news magazines.
