World Press Photo ready for the next chapter

In June 2020, we announced a new phase for the World Press Photo Foundation. The first step was the appointment of a new executive director. We are pleased that Joumana El Zein Khoury has been named the new executive director and will start on 1 February 2021.

Like many organizations in the visual storytelling and cultural sectors, the COVID-19 pandemic and other global developments have affected World Press Photo. The organization has adapted to the challenges of 2020, a framework for the International Advisory Board has been developed, and structural changes to internal plans and processes have been made, to ensure the foundation’s continuity. We are thankful for the ongoing support of our community, partners and sponsors through these uncertain times.

To foster the next steps in 2021, Guido van Nispen, chair of the Supervisory Board, will step down and leave his role on 1 February 2021.

With Joumana El Zein Khoury's arrival, we can look forward and commit ourselves with full force to what the World Press Photo Foundation stands for: connecting the world to the stories that matter. Therefore, it feels like a natural moment for me to make room for a new chair and to hand over the baton on 1 February 2021 to someone who can support Joumana and her team to pursue this mission. I grant the organization, its supporters, and the supervisory board a lot of energy for this new beginning.” Guido van Nispen.

The Supervisory Board will use the upcoming months to appoint a replacement and will work together on the transition. We would like to thank Guido for his commitment and efforts during his term at the World Press Photo Foundation.
