The 2023 World Press Photo Contest is now open for submissions until 10 January 2023. Entering the Contest is free and open to all professional photographers working in the field of photojournalism and/or documentary photography.
The annual World Press Photo Contest recognizes and celebrates the best photojournalism and documentary photography produced over the last year.
For the second year, the 2023 Contest will follow a regional model that includes six regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, South America, and Southeast Asia and Oceania. Entries on a wide range of themes may be submitted to the appropriate format-based category: Singles, Stories, Long-Term Projects and Open Format. All information on the categories can be found

2023 Jury
The judging process of the 2023 World Press Photo Contest takes place in several rounds, over a six-week period, in January and February 2023. It involves regional juries and a global jury, and takes place both online and offline.
In each of the six regions of our contest model, a selection of entries per category will first be made by a regional jury.
Each jury has a chair responsible for maintaining the integrity of the process, ensuring the deliberations are conducted in accordance with the highest standards, and that all jury members are fully involved in the judging process. The regional jury chairs are:
- Africa jury chair: Angela Jimu, Zimbabwe/Malawi, visual storyteller, co-founder and director, Zimbabwe Association of Female Photographers (ZAFP)
- Asia jury chair: Hideko Kataoka, Japan, photo editor, curator, educator, and director of photography, Newsweek Japan
- Europe jury chair: Kateryna Radchenko, Ukraine, curator, and director, Odesa Photo Days Festival
- North and Central America jury chair: Tomás Ayuso, Honduras, photographer and writer
- South America jury chair: Felipe Dana, Brazil, photographer and photo editor the Associated Press
- Southeast Asia and Oceania jury chair: Maika Elan, Vietnam, photographer and photo editor
The global jury is composed of the six regional jury chairs and one additional member, the global jury chair. The 2023 World Press Photo Contest jury chair is: Brent Lewis, United States, photo editor, The New York Times, co-founder, Diversify Photo.
Once the regional juries have made their selection of entries, the global jury will decide on 24 regional winners and from those, they will choose the four global winners: the World Press Photo of the Year, the World Press Photo Story of the Year, the World Press Photo Long-Term Project Award, and the World Press Photo Open Format Award. The global jury may also choose to award Honorable Mentions.
Prizes
Winners receive €1,000 as a regional winner and an additional €5,000 as a global winner, as well as the opportunity to have their work showcased to a global audience through the annual World Press Photo Exhibition traveling to over 80 countries.
