On 24 March 2022, the World Press Photo Foundation will announce the 24 regional winners of the 2022 World Press Photo Contest. This announcement will include, in line with the new
regional strategy, the winners in each of the
four categories (Singles, Stories, Long-Term Projects and Open Format) for each of the
six regions of the new regional contest model.
From these winners, the four global winners – World Press Photo of the Year, World Press Photo Story of the Year, World Press Photo Long-Term Project Award, and World Press Photo Open Format Award – will be selected. The 2022 World Press Photo Contest global winners will be announced on 7 April 2022. Both the regional and global winners announcements will take place online.
Entries to the contest have now closed and the judging process is underway. Joumana El Zein Khoury, executive director of World Press Photo Foundation, about this year's entries:
“We’re happy to have received 64,823 entries from 4,066 photographers from 130 countries. That means the number of entrants remained roughly the same as in 2021, as did the number of countries they come from. We welcome the 2% increase in female photographers and the 6% increase in entrants from Southeast Asia and Oceania, and we were especially pleased with the 20% increase in entrants from Africa.” Read the full letter here.
