Lorenzo Tugnoli (1979) is a self-taught Italian photographer based in Lebanon who covers the Middle East and Central Asia.
He worked extensively around the Middle East before moving to Afghanistan in 2010, where he started working with international media and development organizations.
Since then, his work has been published by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Le Monde, Newsweek, Time Magazine, Wired, The New Republic, The Atlantic, Der Spiegel, and LFI - Leica Fotografie International among others. He is a regular contributor of The Washington Post.
In 2014 he published The Little Book of Kabul in collaboration with writer Francesca Recchia. The book depicts a portrait of Kabul through the daily life of a number of artists who live in the city.
Since his move to Lebanon in 2015, Tugnoli’s work is an ongoing exploration of the humanitarian consequences of conflicts in the region and evolves through long-term projects in Yemen, Libya and Lebanon. In 2017, Tugnoli joined Contrasto. In 2019, he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography for his coverage of the famine in Yemen.
