Joana Toro is a Colombian, self-taught photographer based in both New York City, USA and Bogota, Colombia.
Toro’s work explores issues of immigration, human rights and identity and has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian Magazine, Open Society Foundations, Photoword China Magazine, and Refinery29, amongst others.
In 2014 Toro published her first monograph, Masked, and exhibited the work at GalerÃa Valenzuela Klenner in Bogotá. Since then, her work has been exhibited in many international photo festivals, including Photoville, New York; GuatePhoto, Just another Festival India, International Photography festival Pingyao China, and more.
She has received Scholarships for the Missouri Photo Workshop mpw.68, Native Agency Festival, and was joined the Mentoring Program (2018).
