Endre Friedmann is an Hungarian photographer, not to be confused with the other Hungarian photojournalist Robert Capa, whose name of birth was also Endre Friedmann. Friedmann was born in Budapest in 1934. In 1952, he joined the Hungarian National Photo Agency, a predecessor of the Hungarian news agency Magyar Távirati Iroda (MTI). He had started out in the photo laboratory of MTI, but got his chance as a photographer when the official photographer of an official event did not turn up. Friedmann has always worked in black-and-white, because black-and-white reflects for him the nuances of human emotion much better than color can do. Apart from his photojournalistic work, Friedmann is also known for his documentary scenes of daily life.
