Carlos Barria

Carlos Barria is an Argentinian-Chilean senior photographer at Reuters, based in California.
Born in Patagonia, Barria has spent more than 20 years with Reuters covering breaking news around the world, including conflicts and social unrest in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. His work history includes stints embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and coverage of the devastation from several natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and the tsunami in Japan. More recently, he worked as a member of the White House press pool, documenting the presidencies of Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.
Barria currently lives in the Bay Area and looks after West Coast coverage for Reuters, focusing on climate change and immigration. His earlier postings took him to Miami, Shanghai, China, and Santiago, Chile.
Barria's photographs have been recognized by POYi, the Overseas Press Club, and the NPPA contest. He also was part of the team that won the Pulitzer for breaking news in 2019.
