Since 1990, she has organized study programs, seminars, workshops, festivals, and lectures about photography with institutions such as: Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid; Centro de la Imagen (1994-1998), Mexico City; FotoGuanajuato (2002-2006); and Contemporary Photography Seminar of the Centro de la Imagen (2007-2015). Her workshops, portfolio reviews and lectures have taken place in Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, among others.
In 2012, she founded Hydra + Photography with Gabriela González Reyes and Gerardo Montiel Klint. This is a platform to generate projects related to the medium of photography, including curatorships, photobooks, exhibitions, sale of work, organization of events and an educational program. She has been on the jury for grants such as Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte and Conaculta, and a nominator for awards such as the Paul Huf Award, Foam, Netherlands.
Since 2016, she has organized Incubadora de Fotolibros, a long-term educational program that provides authors with the tools to develop their books with the support of international editors, designers and curators from all over the world. In, 2018 she founded Inframundo, a collective project created in Mexico based on the intersection of experiences to produce photo books, experimenting with different narrative tools, hybrid production and collaborative practices. Inframundo is a project of Hydra + Photography, by Ana Casas Broda, José Luis Lugo and Ramon Pez.
In July 2018, Inframundo presented 22 photo books by Latin American photographers and the book ‘Wanted. Unpublished portraits from Manuel Álvarez Bravo’. The photo books have been presented at different fairs, museums and art spaces such as Cosmos, Rencontres Arles, Unseen, Maco Foto, Museum MAF and Paperworks in Mexico City, and in other venues in different states in Mexico.
Her work focuses on the exploration of identity, memory and its link with the photographic medium. She has presented her work in solo shows in Mexico, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Uruguay, and other countries. She has published two photobooks in Spain, Álbum (Mestizo, 2000), and Kinderwunsch (La Fábrica, 2014); the latter received the Award for the best edited art book of 2014 from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports in Spain.
