Alexander Zemlianichenko (Saratov, Russia, 1950), became a photographer after graduating from the Saratov Polytechnic Institute. He started his career at the regional newspaper Zarya Molodezhi. In the early 1980s, Zemlianichenko was invited to join the magazine Rovesnik and he moved to Moscow. Before joining The Associated Press in 1988, he also worked for Pravda and for the magazine Soviet Union. Early 1990s, Zemlianichenko was appointed head of the photo department at AP's Moscow office.
