Since its founding a decade ago, ‘Afrique in visu’ has published more than 1000 articles, mounted several exhibitions in Europe and Africa, organised photography workshops, and has over 100 contributors around the world.
With a background in the History of Art and Photography, she completed her Masters in 2005 with a thesis focused on the Bamako Biennal and new practices and forms of dissemination of photography in North and West Africa.
Today she divides her time between ‘Afrique in visu’, contributing to photographic journals, and art consulting activities for institutions and artists.
In 2018, she was one of five curators invited for the new Visual art Festival in Tunisia, Kerkennah#01, and co-curated the ‘Africa is not an island / Africa is no island’ exhibition which was shown in MACAAL in Marrakech, and the Zinsou Foundation, Cotonou.
In 2017, she directed ‘Being a photographer in Africa, 10 years of Afrique in visu’ (by Editions Clémentine de la Féronnière).
In 2016, she was invited by the City of Lisbon for the Africa.Cont / EGEAC in curatorial research residency. In 2015, she was a curator of the International Festival of Photography of Fez.
Mercier acts as a nominator for the Pictet Prize, Kyoto Prize, First Book Prize, and New Look – Vontobel Prize for Contemporary Photography, and has been a jury member of the CAP Prize for Contemporary African Photography.
