Ernst Saxer was a Swiss pilot and photographer from Luzern. He was known for his photographs of military airplanes in flight during training sessions and flight stunts. He was killed 'in action' on 18 April 1968, when a plane of the Patrouille Suisse, which he was photographing from the ground for his book and film 'Operation Überleben', hit him and later crashed. Both Saxer and the pilot of the plane were killed.
