A kite skier catches the wind on the slopes of Mount Vitosha, south of the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The driving force for kite-skiing comes from the kite, and the sport has more in common with cross-country than with downhill skiing, where gravity provides the main impetus. It can take place on snow, ice, land or water.
