Members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) search a bus passing through territory they control. The main left-wing rebel group in the country's 38 year-old civil war finances its activities largely by taxing drug trade. Granted a safe haven in 1998 by President Pastrana, the FARC have been engaged in peace negotiations with the government but have maintained their military offensive, bringing violence and kidnapping to record levels.
