Breakfast talk: Cristina de Middel

14 December 2019
World Press Photo House, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Join us for an exclusive breakfast and talk with Spanish photographer Cristina de Middel.

After a ten-year career as a photojournalist, her first project The Afronauts (2012), about a failed attempt for a space program in Zambia, brought her great fame. In this project, De Middel uses fiction and staging, means that have become characteristic of her documentary stories. She has since published more than 13 books, has exhibited her work worldwide, is a member of Magnum Photos and has won many prizes.

Get to know more about the work of this pioneering photographer who has considerably stretched the boundaries of the photo book medium in recent years. De Middel talks to Jenny Smets (photo editor, author and curator) about her work, about truth, humor and photo albums.

The breakfast talk is a prelude to the Christmas Photo Book Market, taking place at the World Press Photo House on 14-15 December. Click here for more information.
